We no longer carry the Ohaus CS Series. Ohaus updated the CS series in 2008 so it now features a stainless steel weighing pan, which drove up the price substantially. Precision Weighing Balances focuses on providing customers with the best value in digital scales on the market. After reviewing the changes made to the scale and the price increases we decided it was no longer worth making it available to our customers. |

THE
CS5000 PORTABLE TOPLOADING BALANCE
A compact balance providing total portability in a durable, easy to clean
housing and can speed up any weighing task. The CS5000 offers 5000
grams weighing capacity with 2 gram precision. Its ideal for outdoor
or on-location quality control weighing applications when compact portability
is a must.
The CS5000 is a popular scale for soapmakers for weighing lye. Additional uses include weighing small parcels up to 11 pounds for the numerous new Internet businesses just starting out. When shipping via UPS Ground or US Priority Mail these rates are calculated based on the parcel's weight to the nearest pound. The CS5000 offers readability to 0.1 ounces so you will be able to easily determine the weight of any parcel up to 11 pounds to the nearest pound.
Eliminate time consuming trips to the post office just to determine the weight of your mail. Visit your local post office and request a free copy of the "Consumer's Guide to Postal Rates and Fees" or download the pdf file Notice 123 (Complete domestic rates and fees in a 10-page printable format) and you will be able to apply the exact amount of postage in your office or home. The scale can pay for itself in no time by eliminating applying too much postage.
You can also download both Domestic and International Postage Rate Charts by visiting http://www.usps.com/tools/calculatepostage/domesticpostageratetables.htm. Whenever the rate increases again you can easily acquire the new rates right online or by visiting any US Post office. This is a much more economical solution than considering a scale that calculates the postage since these scales always need new rate chips every time the postage goes up. The new rate chips cost many times over $50.40! That's $50.40 whenever the postal rates go up and then the hassle of finding where to buy the chip, ordering the correct chip for your particular scale and installing the chip without bending or breaking one of the legs to the IC.
One issue to consider with the CS5000 if your weighing large 8 ½" x 11" envelopes or parcel is the CS5000's small platform (Oval in shape having a length of 5.75" and a width of 5.25" ) and positioning of the display. In many situations the platform is too small and if you attempt to place a 8 ½" x 11" envelope on the platform it would cover the display. For these weighing applications we recommend the MyWeigh KD7000 over the CS5000 since the MyWeigh KD7000 offers a large 7" x 7" stainless steel platform, the LCD is located away from the platform and the display is positioned at an angle.
The Ohaus CS5000 is battery powered and comes equipped with three AA size alkaline batteries so you're ready to get to work the second you open the box. The Auto-Shut-Off feature extends battery life by automatically turning off after approximately five minutes if no active weighing is occurring. Additional features include:

Note: The CS5000 features a 5000 gram / (11 lbs: 0.4 ounce) weighing capacity which means the most you should ever have on the weighing platform at anytime is 5000 grams / (11 lbs: 0.4 ounces) . The smallest increment the scale can every display is 2 gram / (0.5 ounce). Therefore, when weighing in the gram mode the LCD will increment 2g, 4g, 6g, 8g, .... 1998g, 2000g. You will never see 1 g or 0.5 g with the CS5000 . When weighing in the avoirdupois mode the CS5000 weighs in pound:ounces. It DOES NOT weigh in straight pounds nor ounces only . For example, it you want to weigh 10 ½ pounds the CS5000 would display this as 10:08:0 (10 pounds: 8 ounces). Another example would be if you had a recipe that called for 90 ½ ounces the CS5000 would display this as 5:10:5 (5 pounds: 10.5 ounces). 16 ounces = 1 pound. If you have a questions about any of the scale terms be sure to see our glossary. |
